I've been watching this situation for some years now. As a former Protestant, I've been paralyzed by the spectacle, unsure how and whether to proceed, and still flailing around on the shores of the Tiber, as it were. I would appreciate prayers for strength and guidance in this most serious matter.

You’re not answering the issue—you’re appealing to comfort.

“I'm happy with my odds” isn’t a theological argument.

The question is simple and objective:

Did Christ establish a Church with real authority to teach, govern, and bind souls—yes or no?

If yes, then that authority has to be identifiable, not something you personally feel at peace about.

And if that authority cannot contradict what was previously taught, then you still have to explain:

Where does that authority exist right now, and how do you verify it without contradicting what came before?

Because saying “I don’t see a problem” doesn’t solve the contradiction—it just avoids it.

So answer directly:

Where does the Church’s authority come from today, in a way that is visible, consistent, and continuous with what it has always been?
